Celebrate Vegetarian Awareness Month!
Posted on October 1, 2011 by Glutenfreeda
October is Vegetarian Awareness Month! Like Celiac disease, sometimes a vegetarian lifestyle can be quite challenging! Did you know there are almost a dozen different types of vegetarianism? From vegan (no animal products, including honey) and raw (no cooked or processed foods/meats/dairy) to lacto-ovo-vegetarians (dairy and eggs are okay, but no meat — this is the most common type of vegetarianism!) and pescatarians (fish is acceptable, but meat and poultry is not) and flexitarians (non-vegetarians who eat a generally vegetarian diet), there are so many different subsets! Still, while some parts of the world are predominantly vegetarian (India, for example) other countries still struggle — living in Italy as a vegetarian is unbelievably challenging. For once it’s actually easier to be gluten free!
So to celebrate vegetarians everywhere, go hug a vegetarian and then check out 5 of our favorite vegetarian recipes — all gluten free, of course!
