Keep Your Apples Fresh With This Quick Tip!
Posted on September 25, 2011 by Glutenfreeda

You know when you cut up an apple and pack it for lunch, your once snow-white apples turn brown and kind of sad looking? Unfortunately, this is a result of oxidation and while the fruit itself is fine, there’s nothing quite so unappetizing as brown, slimy apple slices! While you can spritz your apples with lemon or another acidic agent to slow down the process, who wants to eat tart apple slices? Here’s a great tip for cutting your apple and keeping it looking fresh, too!
1. Cut your apple into 9 pieces by cutting two parallel lines on either side of the stem/core, turning the apple 90 degrees and doing it all over again! Your apple should now look like an edible tic-tac-toe board.
2. Take a rubber band and place securely around the outside of the apple, horizontally, to hold all of the pieces together and voila! No more oxidation, no more icky brown apple slices, and no embarrassment trying to eat a whole apple at lunch.
